Arthur Edward Waite (1857 - 1942)

A.E. Waite  was a member of the Golden Dawn and best known as the  co-creator of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck regarded by many as the classic representation of the Tarot. His biographer, R.A. Gilbert described him thus; "Waite's name has survived because he was the first to attempt a systematic study of the history of western occultism — viewed as a spiritual tradition rather than as aspects of proto-science or as the pathology of religion."

An author of considerable works, he was highly influential in modern Western Occultism.
